Abstract

The text focuses on the difference between a closed and an open soul in the concept of Jan Patočka, whose essay Komenský and the Open Soul sought to counter the banal understanding of Komenský's work and referred to the need to carefully distinguish inauthentic from authentic thinking. Patočka not only sought but also suggested ways to promote the care of the soul as an open soul and, conversely, to resist the manifestations of a closed soul. Education (PAIDEIA) for asubjective openness is the human possibility of how not to live in banality, falsehood, superficiality, but how to care for the soul through turning away from opinion, from violentia humana and turning (METANOIA) to truth.
