Abstract

Proud umění, v němž se setkává biologie s uměleckou tvorbou, se výrazněji objevuje především na konci dvacátého století, kdy biologie - zejména v podobě genetiky, biochemie či biotechnologií - začala otevírat nedozírné možnosti nejen pro vědce, ale i současné umělce. Biologické inspirace v umění jsou dnes označovány několika pojmy, mezi které patří bio art, transgenní umění či biologické umění a další. Přitom není vždy snadné rozeznat hranice nejen mezi jednotlivými označeními, ale i samotnými uměleckými díly. Často je ostatně obtížné určit v této tendenci hranice mezi vědou a uměním, což je také charakteristický rys práce umělců, kteří se inspirují biotechnologickými postupy. Termín bio art (někdy též Bio-Art nebo Bio Art) se zpravidla používá pro uměleckádíla, jejichž hlavním tématem jsou živé organismy či pro díla vytvořená ve spolupráci s těmito organismy.

The stream of art, in which biology meets artistic creation, appeared more strongly at the end of the twentieth century, when biology - especially in the form of genetics, biochemistry or biotechnology - began to open up immense possibilities not only for scientists but also for contemporary artists. Today, biological inspirations in art are referred to by several terms, including bio art, transgenic art, biological art, and others. Yet it is not always easy to distinguish the boundaries not only between the labels but also between the artworks themselves. In fact, it is often difficult to draw the boundaries between science and art in this tendency, which is also a characteristic feature of the work of artists who are inspired by biotechnological processes. The term bio art (sometimes also Bio-Art or Bio Art) is usually used for artworks whose main subject is living organisms or for works created in collaboration with these organisms.
