Abstract

Kniha Public history: praktiky, média, instituce vychází ze současných trendů na poli paměťových studií, public history a teorie historického vzdělávání, přičemž zdůrazňuje všudypřítomnost obrazů minulosti, význam mediálního zprostředkování kultury vzpomínání a demokratizaci produkce historických obsahů a významů. Autoři kladou důraz na možnost aktivně intervenovat do kultury vzpomínání ať již z pozice humanitních věd či paměťových institucí a jejich pracovnic a pracovníků. Součástí publikace jsou také tři překlady. Text Stephena Gappse se zaměřuje na pojem autenticity, který je klíčový pro aktuální diskusi o dějinách ve veřejném prostoru. Jasminko Halilović, zakladatel War Childhood Museum v Sarajevu, vypráví příběh o tom, jak se odvážný nápad proměnil v dnes široce uznávanou instituci. Poslední text reflektuje fenomén medievalismu, který výraznou měrou formuje současnou kulturu vzpomínání. Helen Young a Kavita Mudan Finn kladou důraz na kritický potenciál tohoto pojmu ve vztahu k zažitým představám o období středověku.

Public history: practices, media, institutions is based on current trends in the field of memory studies, public history and the theory of historical education, emphasizing the ubiquity of images of the past, the importance of media mediation of the culture of remembering and the democratization of the production of historical content and meanings. The authors emphasize the possibility of actively intervening in the culture of remembering, whether from the position of the humanities or memory institutions and their staff. The publication also includes three translations. Stephen Gapps's text focuses on the notion of authenticity, which is central to the current discussion of history in the public sphere. Jasminko Halilović, founder of the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo, tells the story of how a bold idea was turned into the widely recognized institution it is today. The last text reflects on the phenomenon of medievalism, which significantly shapes the contemporary culture of remembrance. Helen Young and Kavita Mudan Finn emphasize the critical potential of this concept in relation to received ideas about the medieval period.
